Discover business apps licensing
Dynamics applications are licensed as different models. The basis for licensing is your users’ subscriptions.
You can choose from:
- assigned licenses that are dedicated to a named user or device
- unassigned licenses that provide access to a feature or service at tenant level.
Available license types
Assigned licenses
- Full user access licence – base license for users who need full access to the environment.
- Attach license – allows access to other areas of the system at a lower cost and while maintaining the full functionality of the area. e.g. D365 Finance + SCM Attach.
- Device license – allows multiple users to access a licensed device. e.g., Point of Sale
- Human Resources Self Service license – this license, assigned to one named user, allows them to independently manage basic HR activities, e.g. holiday requests
- Activity license – only available in D365 FSCM. License for users who do not need full access to the system.
- Team Member license – for users who are not tied to a specific function but require read-only access to all Dynamics 365 data and core functionality for designated scenarios such as entering expenses or updating contacts
Unassigned licenses
- Full application access license – this is the primary licensing mechanism for certain products, such as Dynamics 365 Marketing, Fraud protection, and Customer Insights – licensed exclusively to tenants.
- Cross-application access license – such as the Operations-Order line license, may in some situations be used to provide access to certain Dynamics 365 applications in addition to or as an alternative to assigned user access.
- Capacity license – many Dynamics 365 product subscriptions include permissions or capacity quotas such as data storage, transaction volume, case routing requests, or customer profiles. Additional capacity licenses provide greater flexibility for components that are subject to capacity restrictions but are necessary to support the product.
