What Premium adds

Advanced protection in the suite

Stronger access control

Conditional Access considers the device, the location, and the application. Extra authentication, a compliant device, or a block, depending on the situation.

Sales hook. Can your access rules tell a trusted device from a personal laptop?

Stronger mail security

Defender for Office 365 adds Safe Links, which checks a link at click time, and Safe Attachments.

Sales hook. How quickly would you catch a malicious link that passed the basic spam filter?

Full control of devices

Intune manages devices and apps, including macOS and iOS. Defender for Business in Premium adds EDR and threat detection and response.

Sales hook. Do you know which devices can reach company mail and files today?

Data and document protection

Purview classifies documents and limits access. DLP protects data in Exchange Online, SharePoint, and OneDrive.

Sales hook. Which customer-data documents still circulate with no sensitivity label?

Questions partners get asked

Does multi-factor authentication work on Basic?

Yes. Every Microsoft 365 Business plan uses Microsoft Entra ID Free and can use Security Defaults, which include MFA. Higher plans add flexibility. Conditional Access in Premium lets you fit access rules to the situation.

Can a customer move from Basic or Standard to Premium without losing data?

Yes. Changing the license plan is not a data migration. It is a license change on the same accounts and mailboxes.

Is Premium worth it for a company of 5–10 people?

It depends on the data they process and how they work. If the team signs in remotely, uses personal devices, or handles customer data, Premium usually costs less than one serious security incident.

How many people can use Business Premium?

One tenant can hold up to 300 licenses from the Microsoft 365 Business family in total: Basic, Standard, and Premium together.

Can a company mix plans, some people on Standard and some on Premium?

Yes. Premium can cover people who reach sensitive data or work remotely, and Standard can cover the rest. In practice, one security policy for the whole organisation is easier to run.
